Frequently Asked Questions

Of course it’s helpful to have both people in the room—but it’s not a deal-breaker if someone you care about isn’t ready. You can’t change other people, but you can change yourself and how you interact with the world around you. And that has a ripple effect, often changing your relationships, the whole dynamic at home, and (sometimes) other people’s interest in the process. You can do meaningful, transformative work to deal with your family stress—even if you’re doing it alone.

Yes, and absolutely. I’m trained in approaches that support the joys and challenges of adoption—including TBRI®. I’m also an adult adoptee myself, which gives me both professional tools and lived experience to support you as you support your family.

Sometimes (often!), parenting adult children is the hardest part of parenting. It can catch people off guard, but parenting doesn’t end when your child hits 18, or even moves out of your home— in fact, lots of people find that this is when things get really, uniquely challenging because this is the part that often doesn’t have as-clear of a roadmap. I support parents through this season too—helping you navigate shifting roles, develop healthy boundaries, and how to stay connected in a way that works for everyone.

That happens. Sometimes, it has to do with where you’re at, and whether you (or any participating people in your family) are ready to make the needed changes. Sometimes, it’s about a personality fit with your therapist— while a good fit isn’t necessary for change, it certainly can help. Other times, it might be about the approach the therapist used— not every treatment option is a good fit for every family.

Please don’t be discouraged— and don’t give up. Hope is out there for you as long as you’re willing to keep trying, work hard, and try new things. If that’s you, go ahead and reach out. We can talk about if therapy with me might be a good fit for you— and if I’m not, I’m always happy to point you in the direction of someone who might be.
